Benefits of mindfulness

Here is the reminder of the many benefits of mindfulness:

  1. Mindfulness develops all factors and qualities.

Being aware of what’s arising, what we are developing and what we are abandoning: is crucial factor all the way to Nibbana. Mindfulness serves all purposes.

  • Weaken and eventually break addictive habits.

By letting go of mind chatter and persistently return awareness to the present, habitual mind patterns are interrupted, losing their grip and energy.

  • Prevent body/mental experiences from escalating into emotions.

For emotion such as anger, falling in love or sadness, unconscious feedback loops of the mind processes amplify thoughts on top of feelings and stories. By being mindful of what we are doing, we interrupt this process.

  • Starving the fuel of negativities and feeding wholesome thinking patterns.

This is one example of mindfulness in the development of right effort.

  • Time slows down so we pay more attention to life.

We begin to live more consciously, reclaiming the simplicity of life that we previously missed because our minds are consumed by the rat race.

  • Builds resilience

We stop accumulating resentment for example and therefore prevent the build-up of pressure. We slow down the finding faults and negative tendencies: so when the hardships of life arise, we are more resilient in dealing with them.

  • Preserving mind energy

By not leaking energy into unnecessary, unskilful mind activities, we have better meditation and less sleep

  • Processes trauma.

When we are living each moment more consciously, we are able to process arising thoughts and feelings that we weren’t equipped to handle before.
